Day 2 of the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) in Manila continued to drive forward crucial conversations on disaster risk reduction (DRR), with a strong focus on gender inclusion and data-driven solutions.
Launch of the Help Desk
On October 15, 2024, the Help Desk on gender-responsive DRR, one of the gender stakeholder group's initiatives, was launched. In the opening session, DN representatives gave an overview of the Help Desk and interacted with the audience about gender and social inclusion aspects, shared experiences and facilitated networking
The second session of the day focused on the collection, usage, and analysis of disaggregated data. Experts from different organisations shared the tools and approaches they use to gather and analyse disaggregated data. Abner Manlapaz from Life Haven Center spoke about the importance and challenges of collecting and including data on persons with disabilities. Athena Denis from UN Women shared her experiences and approaches in collecting gender-disaggregated data in Southeast Asia. She also shared her experience of working with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs in Cambodia in collecting gender data and informing decision-makers about the results through a series of consultations and dissemination of information.

Furthermore, on behalf of the Gender Stakeholder Group, Duryog Nivaran also delivered the statement of commitment to the Sendai Framework at the conference
The second day concluded with DN members participating in a delegates' reception, which was a good platform for networking and promotion. The Steering Committee members and staff of Duryog Nivaran from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka have been active at the conference. In addition to their participation in and contributions to different sessions, they remained busy networking with many individuals and organisations attending the grand event. They also plan to discuss the progress of the SIDRRA project with its partner representatives from IRC and ADDRN . Stay tuned for more updates from APMCDRR as the conference progresses!
