Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) hosted the 4th National Conference on DRR (NCDRR), on October 13-14, 2025, coinciding with the International Day for disaster risk reduction. The 4th National Conference on disaster risk reduction, brought together government representatives, development partners, and practitioners to share experiences and lessons on building a resilient Nepal. Ministry of Home Affairs, the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR), DPNet Nepal, ICIMOD and Duryog Nivaran collaborated with NDRRMA in organising this conference.

The conference highlighted:
- Having temperature of 1.5°C is too hot- especially for Nepal, where melting glaciers and GLOFs pose growing threats (Mountain and transboundary risks in the HKH region need urgent attention).
- Private sector engagement is vital for DRR, but policy reforms are needed.
- Applying a GEDSI lens ensures inclusive and resilient disaster response.
- Nepal’s glacial lakes require strengthened early warning systems and anticipatory action to prevent a disaster like Thame.
- Digital tools, spatial data, AI, and ML can drive future-ready disaster preparedness.
The conference delegates agreed to back robust action on gender equity. NDRRMA, jointly with support from Duryog Nivaran, dedicated to moving forward with the tangible implementation of the National GEDSI (Gender Equity, Disability, and Social Inclusion) strategy. Practical Action Nepal also partnered with Duryog Nivaran in setting up the 'Pledge Wall' to collect commitments from stakeholders, on promoting gender inclusiveness in disaster risk reduction, aligned with the key objectives of the Sendai Gender Action Plan (GAP). This commitment, alongside the Pledge Wall initiative to integrate the Sendai Framework, signifies a strategic shift toward resilience planning that serves all segments of society.
