Maldives has taken actions to mainstream disaster risk management into development only after tsunami disaster. During last two years, a number of measures have been taken to mainstream disaster risk management into development. Preparation of five year national development plan incorporating disaster risk reduction measures, formulation of a parliamentary bill for managing disasters are major developments in disaster management area in Maldives. Being an island nation, Maldives expects regional corporation to mitigate disasters. Regional information sharing and early warning needs have been highlighted in papers. Since the history of disaster management is not older than two years in Maldives, all disaster management activities are still at the initial stages.
